Good Idea: Secret Surprise Pods!

We’ve been enjoying getting to the different folks that access the Roundhouse. The Day Campers here are always excited to get creative and think up new ideas! This week we created Secret Surpise Pods – geometric boxes containing messages, buttons, drawings, good ideas, jokes and more… We all had fun thinking up the contents and decorating the pods, then we hid them all around the centre for people to discover throughout the week!

Let us know if you find one!

Good Idea: FOOD MASH-UPS!

If you’ve ever met Jenny and I, you know that we love Food Mash-ups, or different types of food put together in such a way as to create something new… maybe a NEW TASTE SENSATION! Have you ever tried Sushi Pizza? No? Well you should! (No really you actually should, its great!).

The Food Mash-up game is a tool we’ve created to help us generate some Good Ideas. Participants picked slips of paper from different bowls to discover some suggestions of potential food pairings. We asked the day campers to illustrate and convince us of the merits of their Food Mash-up Idea! You can see their drawings up on the wall in the Good Idea Lab. Here are a few of the new creations!20425170236_90ff28fca9_k (1) 19828710604_9c9725886f_k 20264707629_bd862642e7_k

Saturday at the Art Mart

This weekend marked the conclusion of the first month of our residency at the Roundhouse, so to celebrate we brought the lab outside onto the turntable, complete with our Good Ideas booth, the Tin Can Studio and some collaborative weaving, in case you’re like us and find it useful to *make* in order to *think*.

Maybe it’s the unusually hot (and dry) weather we’re having, but it seemed like people were really digging deep when offering up their good ideas. Things got a little philosophical:

Good Ideas… vs Bad Ideas

Things over at the Good Idea Lab have remained experimental – we’ve been chatting with the people that are wondering through the centre to find collect good ideas, examine them and start to build an archive of them for use in some of the artworks we’ll be making over the summer.

In one of our labs in the cafe space discussion we had a particularly keen group of kids drop by from the Jump Gymnastics program and they, in true inquisitive form, asked: but what about bad ideas? And it’s true, without bad ideas have a very important role in helping us think up good ones. We particularly liked this one from Elsa, age 5.

But not all the ideas we came up with were bad, thanks to Matios from Calfornia for this one:

And over this past week we continued to settle into the unused Cafe space at the Roundhouse and turn it into our Laboratory!

Come visit. But remember: if you’ve got a good (or bad?) idea and the lab isn’t open, you can always call the hotline and leave a message for us – 778-775-3547.

Introducing : the Very Good Ideas Booth!

Tell us about your Very Good Ideas!

June 1st marked the first day of our Summer Residency at the Roundhouse, so we set up our freshly minted Very Good Ideas Booth at the kick-off to Seniors week in the exhibition hall to start collecting ideas and introduce ourselves! We had some great conversations and gathered some awesome information and ideas that will inform how the project unfolds over the summer.
